KORE is funding small holder poultry enterprises in Haiti using micro-loan financing. This “chicken coop” business is a quick turn around opportunity, enabling Christian families to increase their average annual income 6 to 7 times in the first year. As the operational loans are repaid, that money is rolled forward to another family. The poultry model has the potential to expand and change the landscape of impoverished Christian people in Haiti and other chronically poor locales.
In 2011, KORE began partnering with FISH Ministries to feed kids in Haiti the necessary animal protein needed for their physical and cognitive development. It costs just $6.25 a month or $75 to feed a child for a year in Haiti. Here's how this campaign goes BEYOND RELIEF: By expanding the feeding ministry, we guarantee a market for the poultry production already begin in Haiti. We are working toward our goal of funding an additional 100 individual poultry units during 2013. KORE is creating paying jobs, improving nutritional health for children, enabling adults to support their own churches, and establishing a community health program partnership with the University of Florida.
It's estimated that one million Haitian children are malnourished. Their need for relief is real. But the need for something "Beyond Relief" for their parents is just as real. We can do both with this integrated feeding program.
The more kids we feed, the more adults and families will see the chance to step up and out of their poverty. It's a complete and expandable circle It's sustainable. It's working already! Feed kids and give their parents an opportunity.
