KORE Foundation’s “business as ministry” initiatives demonstrate the love of Christ by focusing on steps “beyond relief”, implementing projects that impact immediate needs and empower future generations. Founded by Dennis and Brenda Bratton, KORE offers the Christian poor of Haiti a foothold away from chronic poverty toward a life of self-reliance. KORE is partnered with FISH Ministries to provide long-term solutions to basic human needs, along with business training and funding.
KORE seeks to create opportunities for economic advancement that will build a sense of dignity and ownership. An opportunity to break the cycle of extreme poverty.
The Poultry Project
KORE’s Poultry Project provides a Haitian Christian the necessary training, financing and oversight to begin his/her own small business. The chicken coop provides food and income security for a family. It is a realistic tool for poverty alleviation, both sustainable and expandable.
A ten-year glance at the promise of a $3000 coop start-up is surprising. In this single economic investment, five small holder business owners are ultimately funded, as the original loan is granted, repaid and re-loaned every two years. Children continue to be fed through a sustainable solution that won't go away when aid workers can no longer provide meals. Unlike relief dollars that are given, spent and must be replenished, dollars invested in economic development, or “business as ministry”, never stop working.
